International PANTHEON Conference 2017

Achieve Digital Transformation with PANTHEON

Grand Hotel Bernardin, Portorož
16–17 November 2017

‘Due to digitalization, the time required to execute individual processes has been reduced by at least 30%.’

Aleksander Nerat

Head of IT, Plastika Skaza d. o. o.

‘Today, 40% of all orders come in via e-mail. If we were to processes all of them by hand, we would need four additional employees to handle the workload.’

Blaž Dobnikar

CTO, Extra Lux d. o. o.

The conference will answer questions about the state of digital transformation in Slovenia and the region, how to achieve digital transformation with PANTHEON in practice, how to face the main challenges during digital transformation and…

How to Avoid the Illusion of Digital Transformation

Prof. Joe Peppard, one of the leading digital experts and special guest of the conference, will help us answer the last questions. We’ve asked him to prepare some remarks about the state of digital transformation in companies.

‘One worrying trend that we see is what I call the “lipstick on a pig” phenomenon,’ says Prof. Peppard, adding ‘This is where an organization gives the illusion of being digital. To the outside world, there bay be some shiny new apps, but inside the company is scampering around in the dark. There may be lots going on under the banner of “our digital initiative”, but in reality there is little cohesion and minimal progress is being made. Digital can be exciting, thrilling – but is difficult to achieve.’

Attend the conference, meet Prof. Peppard and other experts, and learn about best practices from first-hand experience!

Day 1 – Thursday, 16 November 2017

The plenary part of the Conference is dedicated to the central topic of the conference – Digital Transformation with PANTHEON. We’ll answer several pressing questions: What is digital transformation, what are its benefits, what are the challenges on the way to achieving digital transformation, and many more. We’ll learn how to digitally transform all of the most important business functions, and show you successful examples from the real world.

Day 2 – Friday, 17 November 2017

The second day of the Conference will be dedicated to knowledge transfer, the exchange of the best business and PANTHEON practices, as well as the strengthening and upgrading of business and friendship ties. Guests, lecturers, and participants will mingle in the halls Europa A, B, C, D, and Mediteranea, divided into sections.

The Illusion of Digital Transformation and How to Avoid It

Over the last few days I have been reviewing some of my data relating to how companies are managing – or not – their so-called digital transformation journeys. I am impressed with the ambition of some companies, what they are doing, and what they have achieved. Others, unfortunately, are either sticking their heads in the ground, muddling along without much direction or giving the illusion of progress.

More
One worrying trend that we see is what I call the “lipstick on a pig” phenomenon. This is where an organization gives the illusion of being digital. To the outside world, there may be some shiny new apps, but inside the company is scampering around in the dark. There may be lots going on under the banner of “our digital initiative,” but in reality there is little cohesion and minimal progress is being made. This presentation will address the challenges of achieving real digital transformation. Being digital involves more than deploying digital technologies like social media, mobile, cloud, analytics, internet of things, cognitive computing, or blockchain. A digital transformation involves rethinking the company’s value proposition, not just its operations. A digital company innovates to deliver enhanced products, services, and customer engagement. Digital can be exciting, thrilling — but is difficult to achieve.

State of Digital Transformation of Companies in Slovenia and the Region

The results of our analysis have shown that digital transformation is a business challenge for companies, because only a quarter of the companies has a formalized digital strategy, and half don’t know what kind of potential savings and benefits to expect.

Digitalization of Business Processes with PANTHEON

Process digitalization and automation are key features of Industry 4.0. In light of that, PANTHEON has been equipped with two things: in addition to an upgraded document management system (DMS), we’ve developed a tool called Business Process Manager, or in our terminology, Workflow.

More
With our digital tools, revolutionary developments can be achieved. We’ll showcase how they work during the first day of the Conference and have more in-depth workshop on day 2.”

Who Will Lose the Sales Battle and Where Will We Be in 2020?

It is predicted that by 2020, 85% of all customer interactions in companies with sufficiently developed IT will be managed by artificial intelligence.

More
Today, customers go through the process of purchasing on their own, using content found online or on social media. Based on the information gathered, they make decisions or develop purchasing preferences, including whom not to give their business.

All activities in the digital environment leave a digital footprint, which can signify interest and the sentiment of customers in the midst of buying something. If we can track those prints, we can adapt to any customer correctly and in a timely manner. We can personlize content based on the detected interest and alert our sales personnel to a potential customer.

If previously we were mostly involved in managing the sales process and tracking activities of sales personnel within CRM systems, now we’ve come to realize that successful sales depend even more on our ability to track the purchasing process of individual customers even before they first come in contact with our sales team. Today, CRM systems not linked with Marketing Automation Systems, which manage the purchasing process of individual customers and personalize digital content, don’t do enough to ensure successful sales. Despite being thorough, sales personnel relying on luck and not responding to the digital footprints of potential customers usually lose the battle.

Similar to that of sales are the fates of marketing personnel managing digital advertising campaigns. With technology based on AI, radical changes have begun to emerge in how ad space is purchased and the process of optimizing campaigns. Machine learning and prediction models based on detected patterns in response to digital ad campaigns indicate that AI will be the primary agent in optimizing ad campaigns and purchasing ad space. But this is not the only field, where people in marketing are being pushed out. Salesforce and Microsoft predict that by 2020, 85% of all customer interactions in companies with sufficiently developed IT will be managed by artificial intelligence.

Digital Transformation of Sales and Purchasing with PANTHEON

Many business functions in the age of digital transformation are going through important changes, including sales/purchasing. To support that, we’ve added several tools to PANTHEON’s repertoire that will help you digitalize sales/purchasing.

More
The way how we face challenges has changed. The sales process has changed and become faster. Companies also face challenges on the side of suppliers, which is of key importance and too often too far removed from digitalization. Therefore, sales and purchasing processes have to be adapted and optimized. To facilitate that, we’ve added several tools to PANTHEON’s repertoire that will help you digitalize sales/purchasing. We will present our sales/purchasing workflow, mass distribution of messages, digital data transfer, and more. We’ll showcase the features during the first day of the conferences and host a more detailed workshop with a Q&A session on day 2.

Our B2B shop system is linked with PANTHEON. Data on products and prices are transferred daily from PANTHEON to the B2B system, and orders from the online shop back to PANTHEON. 40% of all orders come in via e-mail. More
Extra Lux d. o. o. was founded in 1991 and deals with office supplies, and everything else a company might need to operate. In 2016, we decided to put our business through a thorough transformation. we wanted to link our B2B shop and BiroLux services (consignment system for customers) with PANTHEON, and automate/digitalize our business. We wanted to simplify order data capture, and to speed up the transfer of orders to dispatch, as well as to simplify BiroLux consignment reports. Today, the B2B shop system is linked with PANTHEON. ata on products and prices are transferred daily from PANTHEON to the B2B system, and orders from the online shop back to PANTHEON. 40% of all orders come in via e-mail. If we were to processes all of them by hand, we would need four additional employees to handle the workload. For the BiroLux system, the process of transferring consignment sales reports to PANTHEON was digitalized, and invoice creation for consignment automated. Digitalization has allowed us to speed up the process by 30%, because some processes that were previously done by hand have been automated. We also want to stress that control over stock for individual customers has increased. We discover errors immediately, while we had to wait until inventory discrepancies emerged.

Digital Transformation of Accounting with PANTHEON

To facilitate the digitalization of Accounting, we developed a number of new tools for PANTHEON, chief among them Workflows for balance reports – posting controls, balance report creation, export, etc., as well as financial reporting and analytic tools.

More
Accounting firms that want to digitalize have to implement new technologies or upgrade existing IT infrastructure. It’s a combination of things accounts already know about: cloud-based accounting, mass data processing, smart devices, etc. The combination of these technologies enable accountants to lower costs, analyze larger data sets, reduce repetitive tasks, and automation. By implementing new technologies, they can focus on their field of expertise. The transition to paperless business is therefore a necessity. Additionally, integration with customer processes will be necessary. If accounting is to be completely digitalized in the future, accounting organizations have to upgrade existing business models and understand the business operations of clients they are hired by. To facilitate the digitalization of Accounting, we developed a number of new tools for PANTHEON, chief among them Workflows for balance reports – posting controls, balance report creation, export, etc., as well as financial reporting and analytic tools. We’ll be introducing these tools on the first day of the conference and give you a more detailed account with a Q&A sessions during our workshop on day 2 of the Conference.

More
We linked the PANTHEON ERP software with a DMS, which allowed us to review documents anywhere in the information system. Accounting information is always available online, chances for errors to crop up are minimal, and our accountants can focus on topics such as accounting indicators, analyses, planning, and consulting, instead of dealing with dreary data entry.

What about Digitalization of Manufacturing and Industry 4.0?

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the complete digitalization of manufacturing. It represents a new level of the structure and management of the entire value chain through all levels of the life cycle of a product.

More
The main building block is cyber-physical systems (CPS) that give products and production resources the ability to communicate autonomously, which on one hand opens the possibility of adaptable linking, and on the other introduces new risks to the business, but also new ways to deal with the risks, and a bigger dependency on real-time information extraction from large amounts of collected industry data. Digitalization is already a part of business operations, which means that any business decisions should already include a “digital test” or considerations about whether we fully grasp (digital) business risks that our decisions create. The following 3-question test can be used to determine that:

  1. Do we know how this question has been answered by at least two competitors?
  2. Does the direction of the transformation give the company an understanding of the potential of data in Industry 4.0?
  3. Which (real) customer problem do we solve by the planned ‘digitalization’ steps?

By using a dedicated planning tool linked with PANTHEON, Plastika Skaza d. o. o. has increased the effectiveness of manufacturing equipment. It is estimated that the time needed to execute individual processes has been reduced by at least 30%.

More
Plastika Skaza d. o. o. is a company with a 40-year tradition. The company has seen a complete transition from paper business to integrated IT systems. They linked PANTHEON with their online shop, MES, iWare warehouse system, Preactor planning tool, EDI system, and others. All processes that transition from being primarily paper-based to electornic become faster and reduce errors due to automation. They are currently undergoing modernization of manufacturing with real-time material and labor relief, and product reception.
With the help of digitalization, order and work order processing times have been reduced. Using a dedicated planning tool linked with PANTHEON increased the effectiveness of manufacturing equipment. It is estimated that the time needed to execute individual processes has been reduced by at least 30%. Know Thyself (“Gnothi seauton”) as Key Prerequisite of Transformation

On the path to digital transformation, companies and individuals face two main challenges. The first one is definitely preparing management and employees for changes and gaining their acceptance. Confrontation with change can be one of the key challenges for the human psyche.

More
As early as Antiquity, the fact that the psyche is resistant to any change was well known. Therefore, without knowing yourself well and the process of change itself, the entire process can transform into self-education, or – in the case of businesses – unwanted stagnation of a person, a team, or the company as a whole. Transformation has an innate mathematics, which is pragmatically ruthless. Understanding the logic behind the process is a key prerequisite of successful implementation. Knowing yourself is the key prerequisite of transformation.

Are You Ready for GDPR – New EU Regulation for Data Protection?

On 25 May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect, which will significantly restrict the way personal data in the EU is collected, stored, and processed. GDPR will definitively be the second main challenge that will have to be overcome. What does GDPR bring?

More
One of the main changes brought about by the new regulation is the broader definition of what constitutes person data, which includes IP addresses among others. Other changes include new restrictions in the way consent for personal data processing is attained. Pre-checked checkboxes for ToS will no longer be legal. The same goes for collecting personal data, which are non-essential to provide a service. Most importantly – all this will affect all personal data already collected and that will be collected after 25 May.
